Bud, not BuddyIn honor of Black History Month, we are giving away two terrific books by Christopher Paul Curtis that bring African-American history to life. They are:

- Bud, Not Buddy : This novel, winner of the Newbery Award and the Coretta Scott King Award, tells the story of Bud, a 10-year-old orphan who is on the run from abusive foster homes and Hoovervilles in 1930s Michigan. When he decides to hit the road to find his father, he embarks on quite a journey. For ages 8-12.

Mighty miss malone- The Mighty Miss Malone. Named one of Amazon's Best Books of the Month for Kids in January 2012, this novel is also set in 1936. Deza Malone is a dedicated student and member of a close-knit family whose motto is “we are a family on a journey to a place called Wonderful.” Unfortunately, the Great Depression is taking a toll that journey, and when Deza’s father leaves in search of work, the rest of the family soon has no choice but to follow. For ages 9-12.
