Classical Music

Published on: September 01, 2004

The Seattle Symphony
is the go-to organization for kids' classical music performances. It
offers seasonal series aimed at different age groups: Tiny Tots (ages
newborn-5) and Discover Music! (ages 5-12). 206-215-4747; www.seattlesymphony.org

The very popular Tiny Tots
features early childhood music duo Identical Harmony in an interactive
exploration of music and movement. The themed performances are offered
on Tuesdays or Saturdays at 9:30 a.m., 10:30 a.m. or 11:30 a.m. on
October 2 and 5, December 11 and 14, February 12 and 15, April 2 and 5,
and May 21 and 24. Series $28.

Discover Music!
introduces kids to music by the Seattle Symphony and features
appearances by special guests. The series opens October 23 with The
Magic Horn, with guest Magic Circle Mime Club. It continues with The
Firebird (January 29), Sing Me a Symphony, Dance Me a Movement
(February 26), American Music Festival (April 30), and My Musically
Colored Days (June 4). Series $65-$90.

Another option for family friendly classical music is the Northwest Chamber Orchestra's
monthly Music in the Park performances, held at the Stimson Auditorium
at the Seattle Asian Art Museum. Each month, the orchestra focuses on a
different composer, from the Ravel in the Park season opener (October
24) to Beethoven (November 21), Bach (December 12), Mozart (January
23), Dvorak (April 3) and Saint-Saens (May 8). Children 17 and under
get in free with an accompanying adult. $20. 206-343-0445; www.nwco.org
