Nathanael Johnson: The Hidden Nature of the City

What does the world look like through the eyes of a squirrel or an ant? What would you learn each morning if you understood how to speak crow? For San Francisco writer Nathanael Johnson (All Natural), taking his daughter on walks around the city illuminated the previously overlooked wonders that surrounded him in the urban jungle. In a presentation rich in imagery and humor, he’ll share what he’s learned while teaching his toddler about the creatures inhabiting our cities—the turkey vultures, ants, and snails—and explain why he believes the walk to work each day can be just as entrancing as a walk through the forest. Following the presentation, Johnson will be joined by Grist staff writer Katie Herzog for a lively, moderated Q&A.
