Meet Gregory Blackstock, Autistic Artist

Calendar/Event Details

54395

The Washington Athletic Club, a premier city athletic club located in downtown Seattle, will be hosting artist Gregory Blackstock, the first artist to be featured in the Club’s newly designed grand staircase featuring an art gallery that will have rotating art exhibits.

Blackstock was previously a WAC team member for 25 years before retiring from the Club in 2001. The autistic artist has since struck success in the art world with a book of his art, Blackstock’s Collections, being featured in libraries worldwide. His art can also be found in both Microsoft and the Seattle Art Museum’s permanent collections.

Blackstock initially started drawing when he became fascinated by the tools found in the maintenance room at work and started a large drawing titled “Tools.” A full decade later, he began actively pursuing his art after being encouraged by his coworkers at the WAC. Now, Blackstock has limitless ideas for subjects for his art, and with the help of librarians around the city, he sometimes starts researching a subject years before he begins to draw it.

Reserve for this complimentary event at clubprograms@wac.net or 206.464.3060.
