SIFF Crash Student

Calendar/Event Details

Crash Student is based on the Crash Cinema filmmaking challenge fine tuned for teens (age 13 and up) and college students. Can you create a compelling, cohesive film in just eight hours? Find out at SIFF and NFFTY's Crash Student.

9:30am | Teams assemble, Crash elements are chosen randomly, and official rules are reviewed. Each student will be insured a place in a group that is mentored by an experienced peer alumni from NFFTY and SIFF.

10:00am - 5:00pm | Crash Filmmaking on the Seattle Center Campus

5:30 - 6:00pm | Crash Film Screening

Crash Rules
Films must be no longer than three-minutes and must include the four Crash elements. The four elements include a genre, a type of action, a character's name, and a line of dialogue.

Team Needs
Each team must provide their own equipment including a video camera (can be a cell phone), a way to transfer footage to an editing system, computer with editing software, burnable dvd or flash drive. If you don't have any of these, no worries. Show up and we will find a group that has equipment that you can join. There is some equipment at SIFF as well, but is great to have students using materials that they have at home so they can learn on what is available to them. Also, plan to bring any costumes or props that you might want to use with you that day.

About Crash Cinema

SIFF Crash Cinema is a movie production challenge, taking participants from concept to screening in one day. It is about having fun, making a movie and seeing it on the big screen. The script is developed on the spot by your Crash team (usually 3-6 people) and you design your story based on your team's resources. Come with your own team or find a team at SIFF. Crash Cinema is a bi-monthly and non-competitive challenge.

NFFTY is the world's largest and most influential film festival for emerging directors - helping to foster the next generation of storytellers. Each year the festival showcases films by directors age 24 and under as well as panels, workshops and networking events.
