90-Second Newbery Film Festival

Calendar/Event Details

The 90-Second Newbery Film Festival is an annual video contest in which kid filmmakers create short movies that tell the entire stories of Newbery award-winning books in about 90 seconds. Creative takes are encouraged: think Charlotte's Web as a horror movie, or The Tale of Desperaux as a musical!

For twelve years we've screened the best kid-made movies annually in New York, Chicago, San Francisco, and many other cities . . . and right here in Tacoma!

Make your FREE reservation for the TACOMA screening of this year's 90-Second Newbery! The screening is hosted by film festival founder James Kennedy (author of the YA fantasy The Order of Odd-Fish and the brand-new adult horror thriller Bride of the Tornado) and Tacoma's own Doug Mackey.

This year, the Tacoma 90-Second Newbery will screen on Saturday, August 26, 2023 from 6-8 pm at the Salishan Family Investment Center.

Tickets are free! However, we recommend reserving your seat in advance to ensure admittance. Although a reservation is recommended, you don't have to bring a printed ticket.
