Dr. King’s 1961 visit to Seattle changed our city. Now 60 years later, let’s gather to learn how and to answer the question Dr. King asked: “What are you doing for others?”
On November 8, 1961, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. (1929–1968), the great civil rights leader, came to Seattle for his only visit. He was invited by the Rev. Dr. Samuel B. McKinney, then a young pastor at Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Seattle's Central District, who had been a classmate of Dr. King's at Morehouse College and an Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity brother.
This November 6–8, join NAAM and community partners in commemorating Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s historic 1961 visit to Seattle. With keynote remarks by Dr. King’s eldest son, Martin Luther King, III, this special community celebration will feature engaging and educational activities for youth and families that honor Dr. King's commitment to service, leadership, and legacy.
With both in-person and online opportunities for attendance, all members of the community are invited to join this inspiring three-day celebration.
