Family Day at Seattle Opera

Calendar/Event Details

Family Day: Sunday, August 14 is Family Day at The Elixir of Love! For this specially designated performance, students age 18 and under pay only $20 for almost any seat.* Family Days also feature special student-oriented activities during intermission.

ABOUT THE ELIXIR OF LOVE

Utterly enjoyable from first sip to last, this fizzy concoction is opera’s most winning comedy. A lovestruck bumpkin is about to lose the company of a rich and independent landowner. Crossing paths with a quack doctor, he soon gets duped in more ways than one. Wine, a windfall, and a fateful “furtive tear” eventually reveal happy truths as sincerity triumphs amid much rejoicing.

After a film production in 2020, this colorful comedy returns to McCaw Hall in a new-to-Seattle production that has everything: winking humor, relatable human characters, and a charming love story—all set to ravishing bel canto music that makes the soul sing.

Georgian soprano Salome Jicia, praised for her “razor-sharp coloratura” by Musical America, makes her Seattle Opera debut as Adina alongside Samoan tenor Amitai Pati, whose “light, lyrical” voice (San Francisco Classical Voice) debuts as Nemorino. Also debuting as Nemorino, Andres Acosta will present the "clarion high notes and general comic breathlessness" (San Francisco Gate) that infuse his interpretation of Donizetti. Italian bass-baritone Luca Pisaroni will fill the role of Dulcamara, bringing his “robust tone and informed style” (The New York Times) to Seattle Opera for the first time.
