Filipino Story Time: ‘Lolo's Sari-Sari Store’

Calendar/Event Details

Sat, Oct. 12 @ 11:00 a.m.–12:00 p.m.

Embark on a Cultural Journey with Filipino Story Time – Let’s Read Lolo’s Sari-Sari Store | Saturday, October 12 | 11am – 12pm | Free with admission

Join Filipino Story Time in the Museum on Saturday, October 12 as we read Lolo’s Sari-Sari Store, which tells the story of a little girl and the lessons learned in her grandfather’s sari-sari store. Filipino Story Time will also be bringing in a small-scale play sari-sari store for children to explore. Visitors can make their own grocery lists to shop with in the sari-sari store and the Museum’s Farmers Market as they learn about Filipino recipes and household staples.

In Tagalog, “sari-sari” means variety, thus sari-sari stores are variety or convenience stores that are popular throughout the Philippines and serve as an establishment offering accessible resources. Often times, you’ll find everything from snacks to household essentials, often in “tingi” or small quantities, making common necessities affordable and easy to access for everyone in the community.
