Float Your Boat Family Science Night (online)

Calendar/Event Details

Join PacSci as we prepare for an Arctic journey exploring the science behind ocean currents and the impact these distant waters have on our own lives. Our mission begins here at the Puget Sound with the University of Washington’s Polar Science Center and a community science project families are encouraged to join!

During our program, families are invited to support polar researchers studying the changing Arctic environment by decorating unique science instruments – mini wooden boats. Once decorated, our community’s wooden boats will be travelling to the North Pole and used to monitor drift patterns in the Arctic Ocean.

As we come together as community scientists, we’ll also have the opportunity to hear from one of the Float Your Boat project creators, Dave Forcucci.

Follow this link to schedule a time to pick up your wooden boat from PacSci. The boat pick-up location will be at our main campus at 200 2nd Ave N, Seattle, WA 98109. Available times are 8:00 AM - 6:00 PM on Thursday, April 21 and Friday, April 22 or 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM PDT on Saturday, April 23.

We encourage families to decorate their boats during our virtual Family Science Night on Thursday, April 28 from 6:30 - 7:15 PM.

Decorating a boat is not required to participate in our live program, however if you do select to pick up a boat, we recommend having art materials such as markers or non-toxic paint to help your learners decorate during the event.

To be included on the voyage to the North Pole, decorated boats must be returned to PacSci by Friday, May 6.
