What is Forest Bathing?
“Forest Bathing is an easy way to immediately improve your overall wellbeing without much effort. A simple, slow walk in nature to open the senses creates the perfect conditions for the mind and body to relax and heal. On a forest bathing walk, participants gather among trees to practice slow movement and breath while noticing the details of the natural world. No experience is necessary, and the walk is less than one mile in length. The benefits of forest bathing are well-researched and include easing depression and anxiety, improving immunity, reducing cortisol (stress hormone), and lowering blood pressure and heart rate.
A typical forest bathing session is between an hour and two hours and gives participants a chance to reset their nervous system and find a fresh perspective on their world. There is no destination on a forest bathing walk, just a goal of noticing and appreciating one’s surroundings. This simple state of wonderment and relaxation creates a big boost in wellness that lasts for two to three weeks after the session. Participants are guided through invitations to connect with their senses (sight, smell, touch, hearing, taste) as a way to deeply enjoy the environment. Following tradition, a forest bathing walk ends with a tea ceremony to celebrate the plants around and close the experience by highlighting the sense of taste.”
