Railroads provide us far more than alternative transportation and art shows us how. This illustrated presentation begins with historical railroad advertising art to remind us what we once had and gave up. Contemporary rail art then opens a window on what we have now, but generally ignore, and what we need and indeed can have.
Presented in partnership with the Pacific Northwest Railway Archives and the Northwest Railway Museum, begin your round trip experience in Snoqualmie when you climb aboard historic passenger cars and journey west to the top of Snoqualmie Falls, pausing at the crest for a view of the lower river valley. Return east to the Railway History Center (RHC) for a visit the Train Shed Exhibit Hall, when the other passengers reboard for North Bend, join J. Craig Thorpe in the foyer for Railroads, Art, and American Life. After the program hop back aboard to return to the Snoqualmie Depot.
J. Craig Thorpe is a Seattle-area artist who, over the course of 30 years, has produced paintings and drawings for noted clients such as Amtrak, General Electric, White Pass & Yukon Route, Grand Canyon Railway and other public and private clients. His realist style invites the viewer to ponder the relationship of the railroad to our national landscapes and the common good.
