A Midsummer Night's Dream is one of Shakespeare's most familiar and most popular comedies. It is an age old story of youth vs age and how love seems to transform everything.
The story revolves around three groups of characters: The royals (upper class),the workers, and the fairies (who live in the forest). On the eve of the Duke's wedding, a young couple are brought to court because a daughter will not marry her father's choice. The lovers run away together into the forest, but are pursued by another couple, who don't realize yet how much they will end up loving each other (with a little help from magic).
At the same time, a group of workers have decided to put on a play for the wedding celebration and rehearse in the same forest. They are terrible actors, but good of heart. And, as every Elizabethan knew, fairies reside in the forest. We meet the magical fairy King and Queen, who are quarreling, along with Puck (Robin Goodfellow) who is a mischievous fairy that humans hope they can avoid. There are mistaken identities, love triangles, arguments and sword fights, and in the end there is a wedding, not just with one couple, but with three.
Our production presents the fun in an hour.
