Tapestry is a world-renowned tap dance company. In “Passing It Forward” the company takes a diverse and dynamic look at “The American Dream,” and how individuals navigate through the complexities of race, culture, gender identity and equal rights. The show explores some of the most challenging aspects of our complicated American history in a positive and joyful way.
Through historical traditions and new works of tap dance set to video and a diverse musical score of spoken word poetry, hip-hop, jazz, and American classics, Tapestry sets a rhythm of communication, hope, and healing. The show will feature guest performances by two local groups: African Sisters Swahili Choir and a Sudanese dance group.
Tapestry was founded in Austin, Texas in 1989. Over nearly three decades, the company has premiered 165 original works, toured 25 states and three countries, and proudly stands as the only full-time professional multi-form dance company that specializes in tap dance in North America.
