Eastside CHADD: Monday, June 3rd, 7 to 8:30 p.m. "Assistive Technology (AT) and Accessible Educational Materials (AEM)"
Debra Fitzgibbons, M.A. - What We Need to Know About Assistive Technology (AT) and Accessible Educational Materials (AEM) - Their Role in Education and Through the Golden Years
Accessible Educational Materials (AEM) are print- and technology-based educational materials that are enhanced to make them usable across the range of learner variability.
Inclusion of all learners begins by ensuring access to curriculum to allow opportunities to enjoy and make use of the same materials as their peers. Engagement and participation increase when all learners feel they are included and belong in their classroom. Learn when students with disabilities must be evaluated for these services.
Oregon is one of seven states chosen to partner with the National AEM Center to participate in a 4-year technical assistance grant to develop a coordinated system for equitable provision of AEM and accessible technologies in a timely manner across the continuum of state educational services across the lifespan. The vision and mission of the Oregon AEM Cohort is to ensure access to curriculum from early childhood through the golden years for ALL learners. The system includes professional development to build awareness and connect the dots to understanding what accessibility means to individuals. The system includes building relationships to develop a community of practice for all voices and roles in education.”
