From developing COVID-19 breathalysers and antimicrobial masks using nanotechnology to enhancing essential services, women engineers are amongst the unsung heroes whose ideas, innovations and resilience have made major differences in the fight against the pandemic over the past two years.
The event will present a curated showcase of women engineers and innovators in an effort to empower more women to do the same.
The event will also highlight the importance of quality education for girls and the increasingly important leadership and innovation roles of women to create a better and more sustainable post-pandemic world.
At the webinar, Ms Susanna Kass, Energy Fellow, Stanford University and Data Centre Advisor to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), will speak on ‘Ensure inclusive and equitable quality education and promote lifelong learning opportunities for all’. Driven by a passion to create an alternate commercial-scale clean energy source, Ms Kass will also share her journey and challenges as a climate advocate and co-founder of InfraPrime, a clean energy start-up.
The other speaker will be Ms Sugandha Singh, Power System Specialist, Keppel FELS Ltd who will focus on the webinar theme. Practicing in the male-dominated electrical engineering field, Ms Singh will share how she turns her challenges at work into motivation for excellence, with the aim of inspiring women to be confident in taking up job roles traditionally reserved for men.
The webinar also comprises a panel discussion on ‘Women in Innovation: Leadership and Creating Solutions” with four panellists from NTU: Professor Ling Xing Yi, Professor Lam Yeng Ming, PhD Student Leong Shi Xuan and Research Fellow Rui Goncalves.
