Kid-friendly hikes: urban and wild
Kids don't always make the most enthusiastic hikers, but if you can get them out the door, often they'll have fun. The right snacks help, too. We've gathered some urban hikes if you like city scapes, plus a handful of hikes in the wild for families that want to wander among the trees. Happy trails.
Urban hikes:
- Circumnavigate Lake Union on a city hike that takes you across bridges, past parks, near yachts and houseboats and even has a troll sighting.
- This urban family hike takes you across an iconic local bridge and offers sky-high views and thrills. (There are doughnuts, too!)
- Kids will love exploring secret city passageways on these fascinating urban stairway walks.
- Urban trails around Tacoma lead families to water.
Get into the wild:
- Hikes with a prize — that's what we call these treks that have something extra to entice reluctant hikers out the door and onto the trail.
- Hike into history on these ghost town hikes for kids and families.
- Some tot-sized trails feature in these kid-friendly hikes in the Issaquah Alps.
- Hike here and there: This list pairs popular hikes with less-crowded alternatives. Try them all!
