Team Cupcake may have lost out to Team Pie, although my sweet tooth disagrees. Apparently, lots of folks' sweet tooths disagree, because cupcake bakeries and events are still going strong in spite of recent pronouncements that they are so over.
This weekend, cupcake-a-vores will descend on The Canal in Ballard for CupcakeCamp Seattle, a baking competition/sugarfest where you can sample cupcakes, look at cupcakes, enter a cupcake-eating contest, etc. etc. etc. Professional cupcake bakers will show off their stuff, but the baking competition also has an under-16 category (although registration is already closed).
Ten bucks gets you in the door for six free mini or three standard cupcakes. You can buy more while you're there. The event benefits the Hope Heart Institute.
All the details here. I'd be there if I didn't have a pressing date with the last day of the ski season.
