New restaurant alert: Ethan Stowell is planning a new fried chicken sandwich restaurant chain focused on sustainability. The new restaurant, called Mt. Joy, will open in 2023, but you can get a taste of what’s to come at its pop-up in Tavolata on Capitol Hill (Oct. 14–16). Preorder your food on the website on Oct. 10.
Plan a fright night at the movies with friends this October. The Seattle International Film Festival will screen a Universal Monsters film series at the historic Egyptian Theatre in Seattle. Snag your tickets here.
🥂Seattle news to cheer about
Public transport for families just got a whole lot cheaper. Kids younger than 18 can now ride Washington state ferries for free. It’s the latest phase of the huge Move Ahead Washington transportation package.
Passengers 18 and younger can also ride for free on all public transportation, including Kitsap Transit, Community Transit in Everett, Sound Transit, Metro and Pierce Transit. Get a free youth ORCA card here.
The Seattle Kraken just unveiled its new mascot … a sea troll named Buoy. Apparently, this guy is a relative of the famous Fremont Troll and once jammed with Mudhoney at The Crocodile. How very Seattle!
😀Smile of the week
Let’s end with some cat news, because cats are awesome and who knows what they're planning next? Take this house cat in Wales that just loves hanging out at the local school. He even snuck in for picture day. Cats!
