UPDATE: This program is now full.
Have you ever wondered what it would be like to be a zookeeper, marine biologist, or zoo veterinarian? Find out during Career Day! Get the scoop on zoological careers – for FREE!
Registered students in 6th grade through 12th grade will receive FREE admission to the Zoo on Career Day. Younger siblings and adults are required to pay the regular admission rate, and may meet their participating student after workshops. Discounted youth (ages 5-12) and adult tickets can be purchased online.
Participants will attend the two workshops by registering for one in the morning and the other in the afternoon. Mid-day, students will have opportunities to interact with zookeepers at various venues, including some behind the scenes visits.
Animal Training Workshop - Students will become familiar with basic training methods, with a focus on positive reinforcement, and find out how training helps keepers provide high quality care for their animals. Students will test their skills by training each other!
Animal Enrichment Workshop - Students will find out why providing animals with enriching items and experiences is an important part of animal care. Students will get creative to come up with ideas for enrichment for a variety of animals.
Career Day activities take place from 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., with check-in at 9:00 a.m. The zoo closes at 4 p.m.
Pre-registration is not required, but all students (including those with zoo memberships) must check in with Career Day staff before getting their tickets at the admissions window. Please bring a completed check-in form to speed up the process!
