On Jan. 6, 2024 the Museum offers farewell programs for the Jan. 7 closing of its ground-breaking Art+Flight project and exhibition. The day kicks off with live music, then artists with Youwen Productions will create new paintings on-site all day, while from 11 a.m.- 3 p.m. many of the Art+Flight exhibiting artists will be in the galleries to chat with visitors about their art. At 2 p.m. there will be special conversation with Dick Nelms—a person who flew bomber combat missions in World War II then became a career artist after the war.
All programs are free with Museum membership and included with general admission.

Live Painting : 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Felt Bowl Workshop: 1 to 3 p.m.
Artist Flóra Carlile-Kovács will guide participants through a 30-minute workshop as they design and make their own felt bowls to keep (while supplies last).
Dick Nelms: Veteran and Artist: 2-3 p.m.
The Art+Flight project’s final speaker program features artist and pilot Dick Nelms. Nelms was a B-17 bomber pilot during World War II. After the war he enjoyed a long career as a professional artist and is the creator of the official seal of the State of Washington. Centenarian Nelms will talk about his amazing career during this chat with Vietnam War veteran pilot Dave Waggoner.
