Bremerton Symphony Orchestra and Chorale present Lux Aeterna on Saturday, May 13, at 7:30PM, at Bremerton Performing Arts Center (1500 13th Street), featuring two bold, uplifting symphonic works to close the season. This concert is sponsored by Kitsap Credit Union, with season sponsorship by Kitsap Bank.
Respighi’s Vetrate di Chiesa or Church Windows is one of the most colorful orchestral scores, which moves from the quiet piety of Santa Clara to the heroic battle of Saint Michael the Archangel with the dragon. Finally, the bombast of Saint Gregory the Great, reminiscent of a series of swirling stained glass panels with Biblical scenes, here translated into sound. For this performance Maestro Futterman added a chorus intoning the explanatory text, which Respighi appended to each movement. Join Maestro Futterman at 6:30PM for a pre-concert lecture.
Bremerton Symphony Chorale, under musical direction of LeeAnne Campos, will also join Bremerton Symphony Orchestra for Lux Aeterna/Nimrod, one of the most unforgettable melodies of Sir Edward Elgar. The concert opens with three of Kitsap County’s finest young instrumentalists, the winners of Bremerton Symphony’s 2017 Young Artist Competition. David Forman, Sarah Jung, and Luke Arnold will perform the Walton Viola Concerto, the Glazunov Violin Concerto, and Delius’ Piano Concerto in C Minor.
