The Christmas Revels

Calendar/Event Details

The Christmas Revels® is a musical and theatrical celebration of the Winter Solstice. This year, we’re singing, dancing and storytelling in an English village (mid-17th century) where the doings of the wee folk – fairies, hobgoblins, brownies, and such – are part of everyday life. They can be helpful, mischievous, or downright troublesome. Caught in their world, it takes magic to escape!

High-energy and hilarious Tony Curry joins the celebration so you know there’s fun ahead! Other players are: the Revels Adult and Children’s Choruses, The Seattle Brass Ensemble; The Twimble Tunesters (Jacob Breedlove, Ben Neubauer, Esther Saulle) playing a number of instruments including the vielle, viola da gamba, recorders, krumhorns, hurdy-gurdy, bass rebec, and schryarpfief. If you haven’t heard of some of these instruments, you’re not alone!

The show includes the Abbots Bromley Horn Dance, a Mummer’s Play, AND a fairy and a hobgoblin! As always, it will be beautiful, funny, joyous; a delight for eyes and ears; a celebration for family and friends - the perfect December gathering.

B.J. Douglas once again directs the production with music director Megan Oberfield. The wonderful set is designed by Martin Christoffel. Costume design by Alex Lewington.

The Christmas Revels® is a lively concoction of folk tradition and high art that blends adults and children, amateurs and professionals, audience and players and truly does include dancing in the aisles. Full of humor and beauty, it plays each year to sell-out audiences of all ages from all over the Pacific Northwest and beyond.
