On Friday, Jan. 12, at 7 p.m., Tacoma Arts Live will host an educational, civil rights-themed theatre production at the Karshner Museum.
Civil Rights Legacy Tour
For more than a decade, Tacoma Arts Live has hosted the Civil Rights Legacy Tour, which, according to their website, honors the legacy of civil rights leaders, encourages civic responsibility among young learners, and has reached over 150,000 youth at schools—throughout Pierce, King, South Kitsap and Thurston Counties. Study guides for K–12 students accompany each play.
What is the Production About?
The production “Where Blooming Flowers Meet the Sky” by Darryin B. Cunningham, is a new show about Zhuli, a young artist writing a new book of poetry. As she embarks on her artistic journey, she receives a powerful visit from three influential ancestors at the forefront of the civil rights movement in the 1960s.
