Free First Thursday: Haiga Exhibit Opening Reception & Sumi-e Demonstration

Calendar/Event Details

For First Thursday in April, we are delighted to welcome Fumiko Kimura for a demonstration of sumi-e, the Japanese art of ink calligraphy and a discussion of her Haiga exhibit.

Haiga is an art style combining haiku, a traditional form of poetry from Japan, and ink paintings. It often depicts simple observations of the everyday life and the natural world.

A Tacoma-based artist, Fumiko Kimura has been teaching art and painting for the past 60 years.

Please join us on Thursday, April 4th, 4pm-5:45pm in the Tateuchi Community Room for the opening reception and a demonstration by Fumiko Kimura. Entry to the garden is FREE from 1pm to closing for Free First Thursday. Light refreshments provided.

Her On The Walls haiga exhibit will be on display from April through May 29.
