"Pixie and the Grocer" by Thistle Theatre

Calendar/Event Details

An excellent example of how Hans Christian Andersen’s weaves humor and pathos together in a story with conscience. A Pixie lives comfortably with a greedy Grocer and his wife. One day he observes a poor Poet give up food in exchange for a book of poetry. The incredulous Pixie peeks into the Poet’s room and sees the beauty and excitement of poetry dance before his eyes! Now he faces a dilemma...should he switch his services from the rich Grocer to the poor Poet and live a less comfortable life?

Thistle Theatre specializes in tabletop Bunraku-style of puppetry, an ancient Japanese art form. Although the style has been modified for modern audiences and performers, the basic idea remains the same: puppeteers, who dress entirely in black to symbolize their invisibility, operate the puppets. Shadow puppets bring the poetry to life. The puppeteers are Amy Escobar, Zane Exactly and Andre Nelson in the show directed by Jean Enticknap. The production features original songs written by Sue Ennis and music score by Michael Flint.

Thistle Theatre’s office and studio are located at Magnuson Park, division of Seattle Parks and Recreation.
