Shab-e Yalda Celebration at the Kirkland Library: Persian Myths, Storytelling and Artmaking

Calendar/Event Details

Sat, Dec. 14 @ 12:00 p.m.–1:30 p.m.

Join KCLS & Peyvand Non-Profit Organization for a children’s storytelling and artmaking session that celebrates Shab-e Yalda (Yalda Night), a Persian holiday dating back thousands of years that welcomes the winter solstice & brighter days ahead triumphing light over darkness. On Shab-e Yalda, families gather to read Persian poetry including epic tales & myths.

Peyvand volunteer Hanif Zarrabi-Kashani will lead a storytelling session at the start of the event & the second half of the program will be dedicated to creating Yalda-themed arts & crafts led by Peyvand volunteer Amelia Ossorio using construction paper, glue sticks, scissors, pencils and markers. There will also be a button press to make custom pin designs!

Guests are welcome to attend only the story reading, drop in for the artmaking, or stay the full duration.

Please complete this RSVP form before Dec. 14 to ensure adequate seating & art supplies for attendees.
