We are Game Changers: A Workshop to Prepare Women to Coach Youth Sports

Calendar/Event Details

In honor of National Girls and Women in Sports Day, the Center for Leadership in Athletics is hosting a free Women's Coaching Workshop on Saturday, February 3, 2018 from 9 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. at the Urban Horticulture Center at the University of Washington. Find out how to make a difference in a child's life and become a leader in your community through coaching.

No experience?  No problem.  This event is absolutely for you!

Youth sports programs often struggle to find enough coaches. Currently,  78% of youth sports coaches are men, which means women have the perfect opportunity to bridge that gap. The Center for Leadership in Athletics wants to provide a platform for more women coaches to get into the game.

Women coaches can truly be game changers in youth sports because many already have the skills and knowledge necessary to support positive youth development. Children can benefit greatly from female leadership and perspective in the sports world. This workshop will provide encouragement, motivation, and training to help women make a difference in children's lives and become a leader in the community through coaching.

During this event, attendees will:

  • Hear from a panel of women who have coached youth sports
  • Hear from youth athletes about the impact female coaches had on them
  • Explore personal strengths and challenges relative to leadership and coaching
  • Receive coaching skills through a unique Coach 101 training
  • Develop an action plan for coaching

The training is suitable for women who have never coached before as well as for women who have a few years of youth coaching experience, but want to brush up on their skills and be inspired by other women coaches.
