Join the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation Discovery Center to celebrate World Toilet Day a few days early! Every year on Nov. 19, the United Nations raises awareness about the essential role toilets play in our daily lives.
Bring your friends and family to learn more about the importance of toilets through hands-on activities, games, water tasting and more! Explore our special exhibition, “A Better Way to Go: Toilets and the Future of Sanitation,” featuring fascinating innovations like reinvented toilets, compelling interactives, and art installations. Powerful objects and stories highlight the progress being made on the world’s sanitation challenges.
Activities will include:
- Pooparium: You and your friends can create your own functional pooparium! Use biosolid compost, soil and native plants to help reduce the impact of blocking sewage during waterfloods and re-plant in your garden or local community park.
- Toilet paper races: Pull that paper and roll your roll!
- Seed balls: Create your own seed balls using a North American Native Wildflower Seed Mix. Seed balls are an easy, eco-friendly way to plant and support biodiversity.
- Water bar challenge: Can you taste the difference between tap water, bottled water and filtered water? Test your taste buds with the water baristas from our Youth Ambassador Program.
- Poop toss: Get ready for some belly laughs and friendly competition with our Poop Toss Game! Participants will toss poop-shaped bean bags into a toilet competing to see who can score the most points!
- Button making: Make your badge for a more equitable and cleaner world!
- “A Better Way to Go: Toilets and the Future of Sanitation”: Explore our special exhibition featuring fascinating innovations like reinvented toilets, art installations and more.
