Freelance Writers
We welcome pitches from freelance writers. Please review the following guidelines below before writing your query letter or pitch.
- Take a close look at ParentMap.com and ParentMap Magazine and the type of pieces we publish before drafting your pitch. This will give you a good idea of the stories we publish, our voice and our audience. As a Puget Sound-based monthly print publication and a national-audience website publishing daily, we’re interested in local stories and broader parenting pieces.
- We cover family life from pregnancy through college, and we aim for a diverse chorus of voices. We welcome writers who have a distinct voice and unique perspective on some aspect of parenting or family life, and we love freelancers who can swoop in and quickly riff on current affairs and parenting trends.
- We generally work with writers who have some experience, so please list the publications in which your work has been published and links to your previous work whenever possible.
- Payment for stories depends on topic depth and placement of the article. ParentMap pays within 45 days following publication.
Please email queries and pitches to editor@parentmap.com.
ParentMap Invites Pitches From Writers of Color
ParentMap aims to provide news, information, inspiration and fun relevant to every family in the Puget Sound area. We are committed to amplifying the voices, experiences and perspectives of parents and families from traditionally underrepresented communities.
To do this, we are actively inviting and seeking pitches from writers of color.
These pitches can be on any topic that ParentMap covers, from a new kid-friendly spot to how your family survived the first day of kindergarten. We also welcome pitches specific to the parenting and family experiences of people of color.
