The highly acclaimed Northwest Boychoir announces their Choral Tradition series for March 2017. Now in its third season, Choral Tradition celebrates the breadth and diversity of the classical choral repertoire.
This year’s program will feature Igor Stravinsky’s brilliant Symphony of Psalms. Composed in 1930, in the neo-classical style, this work was declared by Time Magazine to be the best classical composition of the 20th century. Stravinsky intended that the treble parts (soprano and alto) be performed by children’s voices, though due to the complexity of the work, it is rarely performed in this manner. This is a rare opportunity to hear this work as it was conceived by the composer.
The second part of the program will be devoted to the tremendously popular Gloria by Antonio Vivaldi. As with the Symphony of Psalms, Vivaldi wrote his joyous Gloria for children’s voices. This early 18th century work is a masterpiece of choral style, with wonderful linear interplay and an uplifting spirit.
