It's time to celebrate! The Seward Park torii (Japanese gate, or literally a “bird perch”) was a fixture of this south Seattle park for many decades. Modeled after the famous O-torii in Miyajima, Japan, our torii served as a symbol of intercultural friendship. The passing of time saw the torii decay until it was sadly dismantled in the mid-1980s.
Now, after many years of thoughtful design development, dedicated fundraising, and COVID-related delays, the new Seward Park torii stands in the place once held by its predecessor. The time has come to celebrate this honored monument to intercultural friendship with our friends and neighbors. Join the Friends of Seward Park and so many more people who have brought this dream to reality. There will be drums, performances, enjoy and free kids T-shirts and books while they last. This will be a celebration for all, in a place where all can celebrate.
