OWL (Offer of Wise-Minded Learning): The TEB Triangle
The key to understanding behavior
Thoughts…Emotions….Behaviors: They each influence each other…sometimes, all at the same time. Let’s say you are stressed at the end of a long day, your child has a surly attitude, and you bark at him about his un-done chores, instigating an argument. Were your thoughts about his surliness a contributor? Did your feelings of frustration about his “teen ‘tude” (attitude) influence your barking orders at him? How did your unrelated stress factor into your interaction with your child? This exercise is designed to increase your awareness of the TEB Triangle.
Reflect on your last argument with your child. Could it be that there was more than just teen behavior leading up to the argument?
